ONE SUMMIT SQUARE FALCONS EXPECTING CHICKS THIS SPRING

March 26, 2013

FORT WAYNE, Ind., March 26, 2013 – Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) is excited to report that Moxie and Jamie, the new adult Peregrine Falcons residing atop the One Summit Square building have produced three eggs over the past week (click to view photos http://www.aep.com/environment/falconcam/falconcamnews.aspx).  Moxie, the two-year-old yearling female, is from Canton, Ohio.  Jamie, a three-year-old male, migrated to Fort Wayne from Port Sheldon, Michigan.  They were both present at One Summit Square last spring but did not reproduce.

I&M offers its FalconCam online at http://www.aep.com/go/falconcam/ where an image of the falcon’s nest is updated every 15 seconds. The online project was developed by I&M, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and two nature conservation groups, Soarin’ Hawk and the Stockbridge Audubon Society. In 1994, IDNR, I&M, Soarin’ Hawk and the Audubon Society constructed the nest box on One Summit Square with the first successful nesting with chicks occurring in 1996. From 1996 through 2007, 36 chicks have been fledged at this site.
