ASHLAND, KY – Kentucky Power construction and contract crews will be restricting traffic along U.S. Rt. 23 in Boyd County from time-to-time beginning Sunday, Jan. 26. The restrictions are necessary in order for Kentucky Power to safely install and remove power lines across the roadway. The power line project will allow Kentucky Power to improve and upgrade electrical facilities serving the Catlettsburg area.
Construction of new lines will occur Jan. 26 between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. To facilitate this work, several, approximate 5-minute, road closures will be needed to complete the work. Kentucky Power will utilize multiple construction and flagging crews to complete the work as quickly as possible and to minimize the length and number of traffic impacts. The road closures will start near 55th Street (mile marker 14.9) and end near Dinkle Dell Street (near mile marker 14.4), in Boyd County.
In the event of inclement weather on Jan. 26, the work will be rescheduled for Sunday, Feb. 2, during the same time period.
Beginning Monday, Jan. 27, and continuing through Friday, Feb. 7, crews may close one northbound lane on U.S. Rt. 23 from mile point 14.4 to mile point 14.9 at intermittent times between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Workers will make every effort to keep all traffic interruptions as brief as possible.
Kentucky Power has notified highway officials, law enforcement agencies and local authorities of the road restrictions and obtained all necessary work-related permits. Professional traffic control personnel will be on hand to manage traffic and lane closures.
