Appalachian Power storm restoration - final update

March 8, 2015

CHARLESTON, W.Va., March 8, 2015 – Nearly 95 percent of Appalachian Power customers who lost electric service due to storm damage have had service restored.

Wednesday night and into Thursday, March 5, up to a foot of heavy, wet snow fell in areas of western West Virginia along the Ohio River and between Huntington and Charleston, weighing down trees and causing outages to a peak of more than 43,000 customers.

As of 2:30 p.m., the number of customers still without electric service include:

  • Cabell -- 708
  • Jackson -- 348
  • Kanawha -- 169
  • Lincoln -- 261
  • Mason -- 540
  • Putnam -- 898
  • Roane -- 38

More than 1,350 workers, including around 600 from outside the area affected by the storm, are working to restore service to customers still without power. There are approximately 200 locations at which repairs need made before all service is restored. In all but a few isolated instances, where damage or needed repairs may be extensive, customers who are still without power due to storm damage should have service restored by late tonight.
