Kentucky power to host webinar on converting commercial fleets to electric vehicles

July 15, 2020

ASHLAND, Kentucky, July 15, 2020 – Kentucky Power, in cooperation with ChargePoint – operator of the world’s largest online network of independently owned electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across 14 countries – will host a free webinar for commercial vehicle fleet owners located in the company’s eastern Kentucky service territory on Tuesday, July 21 at 10 a.m.

The benefits of operating an electrically powered vehicle fleet are numerous:

• Fuel costs average 50 percent less than those of petroleum-based fleets

• EVs use domestically produced electricity further reducing demand for foreign oil

• An EV driven in Kentucky reduces CO2 emissions by 41 percent compared to a gasoline fueled car

TJ Meadows, energy services program manager for Kentucky Power said now is the time to act.

“With a substantial cost benefit compared to petroleum based fuels and the added bonus of reducing our dependence on foreign oil and less CO2 in the atmosphere, electric vehicles are a compelling option all around,” Meadows said. “Projections call for nearly half of all fleet operations to convert to electricity by the year 2040. We want to help our customers who operate fleets in eastern Kentucky realize the benefits of conversion and provide a turnkey, easy to implement solution at the same time.”

The webinar is presented in partnership with ChargePoint, a leading EV charging company based in Campbell, California offering fleet-focused, data-driven solutions.

“Kentucky Power cultivated a relationship with ChargePoint because we believe they are best in class, especially when it comes to fleet solutions,” Meadows said. “ChargePoint’s integrated online network offers flexibility in charging location and more importantly data allowing fleet managers to make strategic decisions and cost comparisons on an apples-to-apples basis. This, combined with a shared passion for an education based consultative approach to delivering value to customers made the partnership a great fit.”

The webinar on July 21 at 10 a.m. will also include representatives from Ohio Health. The company recently introduced EVs into its fleet; managers will speak about the process detailing lessons learned and immediate benefits realized.
