Kentucky Power’s mobile app makes reporting outages like those experienced in the recent rain and wind storms easier. Customers can now report an outage by scanning the bar code on their meters with their phone’s camera feature once the app is downloaded. It is free at both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
About 6 percent of Kentucky Power’s 168,000 customers have downloaded the app since it was first introduced in December 2017. The app can be used even by non-customers to report an outage by scanning the bar code on a meter. There is no need to type in a service address, account number or phone number. This feature can be especially useful for first responders.
Since introducing the app, Kentucky Power has made several updates based upon customer feedback from surveys, app stores, and frontline employees. Recent additions include:
- Graphs that help customers monitor how much energy they have used
- Fingerprint or facial recognition login
- The ability to register and manage multiple accounts with one user ID
- The option to view a 12-month payment history
Other features allow customers to:
- View real-time account balance, balance details, and payment due date
- View and download bill
- Make a free immediate payment from a bank account
- Make immediate, automatic, and scheduled payments
- Access other ways to pay (credit or debit card, in-person, by phone)
- Switch between multiple accounts
- Choose automatic log in
Future updates will include a faster payment process, more in app messaging, historical weather for usage comparison, easy access to outage maps, and precise error messaging. Learn more in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IB6fcNlJDtM and at kentuckypower.com/app.
