Lending a helping hand

December 4, 2023

Several Kentucky Power employees got together on a very chilly first day of November to volunteer at Facing Hunger Food Bank’s mobile pantry in Greenup. Local residents were lined up hours ahead of start time for the event, which took place at the Greenup County Fairgrounds.

Stations of food were set up and volunteers carefully loaded the trunks, backseats, and truck beds with everything from fresh fruits, vegetables, milk, eggs, bread and boxes of non-perishable foods to baked goods and pizzas.

“Facing Hunger Food Bank has been aiding eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia for 40 years, and currently helps feed approximately 130,000 people per year,” said Ashley Livingood, director of business operations support.

Livingood served on Facing Hunger Food Bank’s board of directors this year.

“I would like to thank all of the volunteers that helped us hand out food yesterday,” said Livingood. “With increasing food insecurity affecting all of the counties in our service area, it’s important that we do our part to help our communities reach those in need.”

AEP is committed to supporting basic needs in our communities. Through Feeding Communities, we join together to combat hunger and support efforts around affordable housing within our communities. If you are interested in volunteering at future mobile pantry events with Facing Hunger Food Bank visit facinghunger.org.
