ASHLAND, Ky., September 1, 2020 – Kentucky Power recently awarded a $48,000 gift to Christian Appalachian Project. The grant from the American Electric Power (AEP) Foundation and Kentucky Power will go toward renovations and repairs to housing in eastern Kentucky.
As one component of its mission, Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) addresses the improvement of substandard housing units in 11 distressed counties in eastern Kentucky, many of which are also served by Kentucky Power.
Funds from the grant will be directed toward program costs to purchase materials and coordinate project supervision in our joint counties. “Our goal is to make homes safe, warm and dry. We repair entries and windows to both insulate and protect, improve plumbing and electrical service to ensure safety, insulate homes to reduce wasted energy which helps our participants to retain and afford utilities,” said Dr. Dennis Jacobs, Christian Appalachian Project philanthropy officer.

We want our customers to use electricity as efficiently as possible which keeps their costs down. Sealing up your house and taking other measures is the best way to control electric usage,” said Brett Mattison, Kentucky Power president and chief operating officer.
The American Electric Power Foundation is funded by AEP and its utility operating companies, including Kentucky Power. The Foundation focuses on improving lives through education in science, technology, engineering, math and the environment and by meeting basic needs for emergency shelter, affordable housing and the elimination of hunger.
