AEP Foundation awards $20K to support Ashland’s home repair program

May 15, 2024

ASHLAND, Ky., May 15, 2024 – The American Electric Power (AEP) Foundation recently awarded $20,000 to support Build Ashland’s Repair Affair program, which is dedicated to making essential repairs on houses and yards for older adults who are economically disadvantaged or disabled. Kentucky Power recommended the grant as part of a commitment to helping address housing disparities in its service area.

The grant award provides funding needed to expand the volunteer-managed event and allow more people facing housing challenges to receive help, said Kentucky Power External Affairs Manager, Amanda Clark.

"Kentucky Power understands the importance of creating tangible, positive changes in the communities we serve,” said Clark. “Repair Affair's mission aligns well with our commitment to support housing initiatives that directly benefit our neighbors in need of assistance."

Andrew Delph, Kentucky Power account manager, works alongside Ashland contractor, Brian Clark, to repair a dilapidated fence.

During the Repair Affair’s annual springtime event on, Saturday, May 18, volunteers will come together to address a number of repair projects, including structural repairs, yard maintenance and other essential improvements that contribute to the safety and security of residents.

"Through this investment, we will enable Repair Affair’s efforts to impact more lives and provide a lifeline for those who may otherwise face impossible challenges in maintaining their homes and yards,” said Clark.

The American Electric Power Foundation is funded by American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP) and its operating subsidiaries. The Foundation provides a permanent, ongoing resource for charitable initiatives involving higher dollar values and multi-year commitments in the communities served by AEP and initiatives outside of AEP’s 11-state service area.

The Foundation focuses on improving lives through education from early childhood through higher education in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math; by meeting basic needs for emergency shelter, affordable housing and the elimination of hunger; and championing social and racial justice. Other Foundation support may be offered to protect the environment, promote healthcare and safety, and enrich life through art, music and cultural heritage.
