Energy Efficiency Programs for Your Home and Business

Programs Designed with Customers in Mind

Kentucky Power has proposed new programs to help customers save money on electric bills and use less energy. Recognizing the hardship of rising energy costs across the nation and in Kentucky Power's service area, this is one of several ways the company is trying to help customers save money.

The programs are currently pending at the Kentucky Public Service Commission and we anticipate a response in the early part of 2025.

What are the Programs?

Demand Side Management (DSM), also known as "weatherization" or "energy efficiency," programs are designed to improve a home's energy efficiency and help customers lower their electricity usage. The main goal of DSM is to reduce overall energy consumption which will lower the cost of energy bills.

Kentucky Power's request includes the following program expansion and new programs to help qualifying residential and commercial customers become more energy efficient to save money:

Targeted Energy Efficiency (TEE): Kentucky Power's proposal requests approval to expand the TEE program, which is administered by the Kentucky Community Action network of community action agencies. Program services to improve a home's energy efficiency are provided to qualified customers who have primary electric heat and use an average of 700 kWh per month.
Home Energy Improvement Program (HEIP): This program will offer home energy audits and incentives or rebates for heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and weatherization. Weatherization is the process of improving a home's energy efficiency and protecting it from the elements such as extreme cold and hot weather. This program will provide qualifying customers weatherization work, including air leak sealing, duct work sealing and upgraded insulation.
Commercial Energy Solutions Program (CESP): This program will provide energy audits and incentives for qualifying commercial customers for common energy efficiency projects where energy savings can be reliably predicted. The CESP incentives include lighting, hardware, HVAC equipment and food service equipment. The incentives will roll out over a three-year time period.

What's the Impact?

The goal of DSM programs is to maximize benefits to customers while minimizing rate impact. As proposed, the programs will cost residential customers 73 cents a month.
